The government wants to boost Faroese music abroad by setting up a music export centre

14.09.2018 - 14:01

Parliament is currently discussing a bill regarding a new music export centre aiming to strengthen the position of Faroese music internationally.

In addition to supporting Faroese music abroad, the new centre will provide consultancy services to foreign artists wishing to establish musical collaborations with Faroese musicians.

This forms part of the trade ministry’s increased focus on promoting arts as an export commodity. The Faroese Film Institute was established last year, and now the focus is on music exports.

The proposal suggests a DKK 1 million investment for the new centre for 2019. This is expected to cover a manager, marketing and office expenses.

The centre is expected to generate its own income after an initial setting-up period. Such an income will be taken into account in the national budget proposal for 2019, according to the Ministry of Trade.

A board consisting of three persons will administer the new music export centre.
