Flight attendants to establish own trade union
Flight attendants working for Atlantic Airways would rather be part of a Danish union than continue as members of Starvsmannafelagið.
Starvsmannafelagið (the Salaried Staff Union) has been told that the decision is not based on dissatisfaction with the union’s services.
The flight attendants say there are more benefits associated with setting up their own union as a sub branch of the Danish FPU, Flyvebranchens Personale Union (Airline Personnel Union).
The current contract with Starvsmannafelagið was due to expire on 1 November, but it has now been extended for one year.
This extended contract includes a 3.26 percent pay-rise. However, whereas the previous contract applied to all flight attendants, the new one only applies to those who wish to remain members of Starvsmannafelagið.
