Voting system under review
Sambandsflokkurin (the Union Party) has proposed that ballot boxes in constituencies with less than 200 voters are counted at a larger polling station.
“Elections should be anonymous,” says Union Party leader Bárður á Steig Nielsen.
“In small constituencies there really isn’t much anonymity. There are people who do not dare to vote with their hearts because of this. This is a big democratic problem.”
The proposal applies to general and local elections.
