Replacement ferry talks starting soon
National transport company Strandfaraskip Landsins is ready to start negotiations with the Norwegian shipyard which has been selected to build the company’s new replacement ferry.
On Friday, Parliament passed the new law on replacement ferries and the proposed DKK 16-million additional grant to Strandfaraskip Landsins.
The ship, a so-called trimaran, is estimated to cost DKK 34 million, and it will take about a year to build. The remaining DKK 18 million will be granted in 2019.
The new ferry will mainly be used on the Fugloy route, but locals in Fugloy have their doubts about using a trimaran on this route.
However, Hilmar Eliasen, CEO of Strandfaraskip Landsins, says that they have done some highly successful tests with similar trimarans in Norway.
