Faroese “more charitable” than our neighbours

This year’s Red Cross nationwide door-to-door collection raised DKK 750,000.
Jóannes Eidesgaard, the head of Red Cross Faroe Islands, is delighted with the result.
“This makes a great difference in our work to provide help abroad as well as here in the Faroes,” he says.
“On average, each citizen in the Faroes has donated DKK 14,70, which is significantly more than the average in the countries around us. This can only mean that the Faroese are very charitable people.”
The Red Cross Faroe Islands committee has decided to spend DKK 500,000 of this year’s donations on relief aid abroad. The remaining DKK 250,000 will be set aside for emergencies.
