New orphanage in the capital

Parliament will today read a proposal from the Minister of Social Affairs which calls for authorisation to build a new orphanage in Tórshavn at a maximum budget of DKK 65m.

The proposal was also discussed in Parliament in the previous sitting, but as it was not dealt with on time before the summer break it was withdrawn.

In the previous proposal, the project cost was estimated at DKK 60 million.

This cost has now increased to DKK 65m as more space will be built for families and treatment.

The expansion is also in keeping with recommendations from experts in the field.

The new orphanage will help ensure that children and young people in need can live better and more varied lives.

If all goes according to plan, the new orphanage will be completed in 2012.
