Dispute about old orphanage building
A disagreement has arisen between the government and the self-governing institution Føroya Barnaheim (The Faroese Orphanage) regarding the financing of a new orphanage.
Parliament’s Financial Committee insists that the government should clear up all formal and financial affairs with Føroya Barnaheim before any construction work begins.
The government also wants to include the old orphanage building in the financial plan for the new building.
But the Føroya Barnaheim administration refuses to hand over the property without compensation. It wants the state to pay the rent for the old orphanage building to help cover maintenance costs.
Once this agreement is in place, the Føroya Barnaheim administration says it is willing to discuss co-financing the construction of a new orphanage.
The opposing parties are currently negotiating a settlement.
