Føroya Tele is now offering 5G coverage in its continued efforts to improve mobile coverage in the Shetland and Orkney Islands.
Representatives from Føroya Tele recently returned from a trip to the Shetlands and the Orkneys, where the 5G plan was presented.
Maggie Sandison, of the Shetland Islands Council, told Shetnews that the Faroese telecoms company would need approval from British and Scottish authorities to work in the Shetlands. And, according to Shetland Telecom’s Marvin Smith, there are many complications associated with such an approval.
Føroya Tele last month announced that 5G will be available in the Faroes next summer. This comes as part of a partnership deal with Chinese telecoms giant Huawei, which ensures that the Føroya Tele network will be one of the first in the world to offer 5G.
5G coverage is not currently available in the UK.
