Tax break “unfair” on commercial landlords

The proposed DKK 150,000 tax break for long-term rentals should not apply only to private landlords.

That would be unfair on commercial landlords, says Gordon Rajani, the CEO of rental property agency Mark. He says that an obvious consequence of the bill, presented by finance minister Kristina Háfoss, is that commercial landlords will have to compete with private landlords who do not pay tax.

That is not only unfair, he argues, but it will also not help solve the current housing shortage. If the proposal is passed, Mark will need to cancel numerous upcoming projects, since the conditions for the investments are fundamentally different.

The finance minister said in September that the bill aims to ease the housing shortage by making it more attractive for private houseowners to rent out their properties.

Parliament debated the bill yesterday, and it is now under review in the finance committee.
