When elderly care was transferred to local councils in 2015, the Residential Care Service in Suðuroy decided to acquire all care homes on the island.

The Residential Care Service, which is an intermunicipal collaboration in Suðuroy, spent DKK 65 million on these acquisitions.

Now the service has called on the island’s local councils to confirm whether they still support the initial plan to buy or rent properties from the service.

Rental agreement not signed

Although Tvøroyri City Council agreed on 10 September last year to rent a house at Sílá for use as a houseshare, the rental agreement has not yet been signed.

Mayor Kristin Michelsen says the council is awaiting approvals from various authorities before the rental plan can go ahead.

The Sílá house was used as a houseshare until 2011 when it was heavily damaged in a storm. Tvøroyri City Council decided at the time to sell the house rather than repair it. The new owners then rebuilt the house and repurposed it as a nursing home.
