Increased military activity around Faroes
Increased military activity in the North Atlantic region has prompted the Danish military to increase its presence in Faroese waters.
This summer will see tests with a frigate in Faroese waters, along with some air force activity.
This activity is believed to serve the same function as the old Sornfelli military station, which was closed down in 2012.
Minister not informed
According to the so-called Fámjins contract, Faroese authorities must be informed of all military activities within Faroese borders.
But foreign minister Poul Michelsen has not received any information regarding the Danish military’s plans in the Faroes.
“The communication between the Danish and Faroese authorities in this field is usually good, but in this case I feel that we have been left in the dark about these new plans.”
