The next year-long exploration of Nordic arts and culture – Nordic Matters – will take place across Canada in the spring of 2021.

Culture ministers across the Nordic region, including Høgni Hoydal from the Faroes, picked Canada ahead of 22 other strong candidates.

Big cities such as London (in 2017) and Washington D.C. (in 2013) have previously hosted Nordic Matters, and the Faroe Islands were also represented there.

Green perspective

The objective of Nordic Matters is to strengthen the ties between Nordic arts and the rest of the world, to show Nordic culture to the world and to create added value for participating artists.

The 2021 programme includes a range of artistic genres and multiple venues from coast to coast and north to south.

It also has a clear sustainability perspective. The programme includes artists who explore sustainability in their work, and the organisers have made a clear declaration of intent to be carbon neutral.
