Kvívík’s hydroelectric project given go-ahead
The Environment Agency has approved the planned hydroelectric plant in Kvívík

Kvívík village council has received permission to use water from the Stórá and Breiðá rivers for its upcoming hydroelectric plant.

An environmental impact analysis was submitted for public consultation in May, and having received no objections, the Environment Agency approved the plan.

The village council is hoping to cut down on its annual DKK 250,000 oil heating bill for the local nursery and the church by producing power from a small hydroelectric power station, which is currently being built.

The system has a shut-off feature which kicks in when water levels in the rivers go below a certain point.
