Man sentenced for tax fraud
A man has been handed a conditional nine-month jail term and a DKK 1.2 million fine for not declaring DKK 1.2 million in his income tax returns.
The man filed his tax returns incorrectly from 2009 to 2014.
He pleaded guilty to the charge and has now paid pack the overdue taxes. On top of this, he has been sentenced to pay the same amount, DKK 1.2 million, as a fine.
Complicated case
Eyðun Mørkøre, CEO of tax authority TAKS, says this is the most extensive ruling of its kind in TAKS’ history.
To get to the bottom of the defendant’s tax circumstances, TAKS has worked closely with tax authorities abroad, the man’s income came from overseas and was registered in US dollars.
TAKS has now upped its tax investigation efforts to ensure that tax fraud will be dealt with under criminal law.
