Big increase in bottom fish sales
This year’s sales of bottom fish – predominantly cod and haddock – are far higher than last year

The total sales value of bottom fish so far this year is DKK 715 million, compared to DKK 562 million this time last year.

New figures from Statistics Faroe Islands show that this increase is mainly due to larger amounts and increasing price value of cod.

Total cod sales for the first ten months of this year were DKK 440 million, which is DKK 169 million more than the same period last year.

The total catch of cod has grown from 15,600 tonnes to 22,000 tonnes in the past year.

Despite a slight decrease in the total catch of haddock, sales have gone up from DKK 57 million to DKK 90 million.

The figures for coalfish, however, are not as positive, with sales going down from DKK 131 million to DKK 99 million, and the total catch going down from 19,300 tonnes to 16,100 tonnes.
