One in three jobs could be taken over by robots
More than a third of all jobs in the Faroe Islands could be replaced by robots in the near future.
According to the State of the Nordic Region 2020, a report published biennially by the Nordic Council of Ministers, the Faroes have the highest proportion of jobs in the Nordic region at risk of automation.
Compared to a Nordic average 32.1 percent, 38.7 percent of Faroese jobs are considered to be “at high risk” of automation within the next two decades.
Denmark is in second place on the list, with 36,7 percent, and Norway has the lowest figure, at 29.9 percent.
Low unemployment
As in the last report from 2018, the Faroes have the lowest unemployment rates in the Nordic region, with 85 percent of the working age population in full-time employment, compared to a Nordic average of 78.4 percent.
The report also features a so-called Regional Potential Index, which compares 66 regions in the Nordic countries in terms of demographic, economic and labour market factors.
The Faroes are listed as number 16 of these 66 regions, which is seven places higher than in the 2018 report.
