Faroese citizens will have stronger legal protection when the new police law for the Faroes comes into force, says Prime Minister Bárður á Steig Nielsen.
The overall objective of the new bill is to bring the legislation regarding Faroese police up to date and give Faroese police officers a clearer foundation on which to work.
The new police law will be a modification of the Danish police law, adjusted to Faroese society.
Pepper spray, dogs and guns
According to the Prime Minister, the new law clearly defines the rights and duties of a Faroese police officer.
The bill includes fundamental principles regarding police methods such as pepper spray, dogs and firearms.
Parliament will also be debating a related bill on applying the Danish police intelligence service law in the Faroes.
