Pets do not spread Covid-19
There is currently no evidence that pets can spread the coronavirus to humans or other animals

It is believed that the Covid-19 virus originates from animals and has since mutated and made the jump to humans.

But, according to Faroese Food and Veterinary Authority HFS, there is currently nothing to indicate a risk of Covid-19 transmission between animals and humans or from one animal to another.

Unknown territory

HFS does, however, point out that since Covid-19 is a new disease and new research on infection routes emerges on a daily basis, it cannot be ruled out that animals can carry the virus on their fur or their mucous membranes after contact with an infected human.

For this reason, along with the fact that animals can carry other germs that can make humans sick, it is always a good idea to practice healthy habits around pets and other animals.

HFS specifically advises pet owners not to let dogs or other pets lick their faces or hands, and to always wash their hands after handling animals, their food, waste or supplies.
