Almost 4 percent are not Faroese/Danish nationals
The number of non-Danish citizens in the Faroe Islands has seen a sharp increase in recent years.
The Faroe Islands are an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark, and on 1 January 2020, some 96.1 percent of the Faroese population were Danish citizens.
In 1996, this figure was 99.2 percent.

This means that this year, 3.9 percent of the Faroese population, 1,705 individuals, have a non-Danish background.
A majority of these (908) are from Europe, excluding Denmark but including 327 from other Nordic countries. 478 are from Asia, 153 from Africa, 121 from the Americas and 45 are registered with an unknown nationality.
