Road traffic across the country has been on a steady rise in the past month and has now reached the same levels as before the corona lockdown was introduced on 12 March.

All road traffic was instantly cut in half when the lockdown was announced, according to figures from road and tunnel authority Landsverk.

The biggest increase is in passenger car traffic on main stretches such as Sund and við Áir in Streymoy, which has now returned to pre-corona levels.

Lorry traffic largely unaffected

Compared to passenger cars, lorry traffic has not been much affected by the lockdown.

The number of lorries passing through Sund, near Tórshavn, saw almost no change throughout the lockdown period, which Landsverk says is a sign of healthy industrial activity during this period.

Vágar has seen a big drop in traffic figures in the past few months, which can to a large degree be attributed to the reduced activity at Vágar Airport, according to Landsverk.
