Bustling nightlife with “no regard for distancing”
An unusually high number of people were out on the town last night in Tórshavn and at the Eystanstevna town festival in Runavík.
Police say there was little to no regard for the social distancing guidelines as bars, nightclubs and the streets were filled with people.
Tórshavn’s bars and nightclubs have mutually agreed to stay open until 2am, despite the 10pm closing time recommended by the government. The police are not authorised to enforce compliance with this recommendation.

The bars and nightclubs adhered to their internal agreement to close at 2am, and two hours later the city streets were empty, according to the police.
This was not the case in the Runavík area, where bars stayed open as usual, i.e. until 4am.
Police say many drunk people were wandering the streets until this morning, and officers also had to step in to stop fights.
