Tórshavn mayor: keep your kids at home this week

Tórshavn City Council is calling on parents to keep their children at home for the remainder of this week.
The decision comes after 16 people tested Covid-19 positive in the past two days, most of whom are from Tórshavn.
“As a precaution, we are advising parents in Tórshavn not to send their children to daycare tomorrow and on Friday,” says mayor Annika Olsen. “This will buy us time to assess the situation and plan our next steps.”

The City Council will now test its daycare staff to ensure that nurseries do not turn into Covid-19 hotspots.
“We have no suspicion of infections among our daycare staff, but it’s always better to be safe than sorry,” says Olsen.
“The daycare centres will remain open as usual tomorrow, but we recommend that parents keep their children at home if possible. And then we will make further decisions regarding possible closures as soon as we know more.”
