Churches reopening tomorrow
The country’s 60 churches will reopen their doors again tomorrow, almost a months after closing down in response to the second wave of Covid-19.
The first-wave restrictions will still apply, meaning that larger churches will have a limit of 100 people attending, medium-sized churches will have a limit of 75 and the smaller ones will have a limit of 30.
These restrictions will apply to regular church services, funerals and wedding ceremonies.
Confirmations across the country
All confirmations were cancelled this spring out of Covid concerns, but bishop Jógvan Fríðriksson insists that this will not be the case this autumn.
“This is an important event for our young people, their parents and not least for the Faroese church,” he says.
“Even if the country is hit by a third wave of the coronavirus, we will do everything we can to carry through this autumn’s confirmations.”
The plan is to have confirmations in 35 churches across the country every Sunday from 6 September until 11 October. Some churches will be conducting more than one confirmation per day to ensure a maximum of ten confirmands per ceremony in compliance with the distancing requirements.
