Newcomers will soon have their very own vicar

The Church of the Faroe Islands has created a new position aimed specifically at newcomers.
On 1 February, vicar Marjun Lómaklett will take up the role as integration vicar on a one-year trial basis.
“We want all newcomers to feel welcome and to be greeted with warm hearts, and we wish to help them spiritually as well as practically,” says bishop Jógvan Fríðriksson.

One of Lómaklett's tasks will be to conduct regular church services in English.
Other tasks include building bridges between the new citizens, the church and Faroese society, including helping newcomers adapt to the cultural patterns and customs in their new country.
The locations of the English-language church services are likely to vary, but the bishop says that churches with facilities for post-service social gatherings are best suited for this purpose.
