Vaccine registration resumes next week
A new batch of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine is expected to arrive mid-next week, and then it will again be possible to book an appointment to be vaccinated.
The problem that recently caused the online vaccine appointment booking system to crash because of heavy traffic has now been solved.
According to Tummas í Garði, COO of the Hospital Service, the system was set up to be able take more than one million requests.

“However, it appeared that a lot of people repeatedly pressed refresh if they couldn’t immediately access the booking system, and eventually the number of hits surpassed our maximum, which caused the system to crash,” he says.
“We have now increased this maximum number, but I advise people to be patient if they cannot access the system immediately. It may take a while, but you will get access.”
The Hospital Service has decided to wait a few days to reopen the booking system because it has emerged that many people tend to forget their appointment if it is too far out in the future, he adds.
