Paedophile’s jail term extended
Man convicted of sexually abusing young boys has had his prison sentence extended by a year

02.09.2021 - 11:50

One more year was yesterday added to the three-year jail term handed to a 42-year-old man found guilty of sexually abusing young boys.

The March 2021 ruling from the Faroese court was appealed to Denmark’s Eastern High Court, which yesterday arrived at a four-year jail term.

The high court found the man guilty of all 11 charges, which included abusing young boys, possessing child pornographic material, purchasing alcohol for under-18s and possession of stolen goods.

The man, who has been held in custody since 16 December 2019, pleaded guilty or partially guilty to nine of the 11 charges.

The High Court prosecution called for detention, preventive detention or five years behind bars. The prosecution in the Faroese court case in March called for an eight-year prison term.

The High Court defence called for a maximum of three years in jail.

Following yesterday’s High Court ruling, the man will be transported from the Mjørkadalur prison in the Faroes to Denmark’s Herstedvester correctional centre, where he will receive treatment.

He is expected to be put on conditional release next summer.

People who are given jail terms traditionally serve two-thirds of their sentence.
