Expensive fire brigade handed cash lifeline
The daily operations of Fuglafjørður’s firefighting squad are much costlier than in other municipalities, according to Fuglafjørður Town Council.
The council is currently processing an application for a DKK 300,000 additional grant to help cover this year’s fire brigade running costs.
Last year, the fire brigade exceeded its annual budget by DKK 554,000.
This prompted the Town Council to look into fire brigade running costs in neighbouring municipalities. It turned out that Fuglafjørður is spending a lot more than other towns on its firefighting services.
The council’s finance committee nevertheless advised the council to approve the additional grant, as the fire brigade budget was empty at the start of the final quarter of the year, and towns are required by law to have 24-hour standby firefighting services.
The final decision will be made on 29 November.
