Minister wants clarity on Danish national law

The Faroese Home Rule Law states that Danish national laws that apply to the Faroes need to be processed by the Faroese Parliament and ratified by the Prime Minister.

However, this is not the case in practice, according to finance minister Kristina Háfoss, who has called a meeting with Danish trade minister Rasmus Jarlov to clarify the issue.

Háfoss mentions as an example the law on financial stability, which was amended five times between 2012 and 2015 without the Faroese Parliament seeing the amendment bills.

She believes that a complete transfer of the finance sector from the Danish to the Faroese authorities would be the ideal solution, but so far there is no majority support for this in the government.
