No sales booths at Ólavsøka

This year’s national holidays, the Ólavsøka, will most likely be a faint shadow of its usual buzzy atmosphere.

As part of its preventive alternative to the usual events drawing thousands of people to the centre, Tórshavn City Council has decided not to allow the popular sales and game booths that have traditionally lined the city streets as part of the festivities on 28-29 July.

Existing bars and restaurants in the city will be allowed to expand their services out into squares, adjoining street spaces and in other ways that are deemed to facilitate social distancing.

The food vans currently active in the city centre will also be allowed to serve customers at Ólavsøka.
