Last year’s oil consumption in the Faroes was the highest on record.

The country consumed more than 300,000 tonnes of oil and petroleum products last year.

In 2019, this figure was just over 286,000 tonnes and in 2010 it was about 235,000 tonnes.

The lowest figure is from 1995 when the annual consumption was just over 195,000.

These figures come from Statistics Faroe Islands, which has been publishing oil consumption statistics every year since 1992.

Fishing vessels last year accounted for some 30 percent of the total oil consumption and 34.3 percent of the consumption of heavy oil.

Faroese ships bunkering abroad are included in these figures. Oil bunkered by foreign vessels in the Faroe Islands is not included.

Statistics Faroe Islands derives its figures from private oil suppliers and public energy supplier SEV.
