Hotels enjoying big increase in local visitors

A total of 7,426 overnight stays were registered in Faroese hotels last month, an increase of almost 900 on February 2020, reports Statistics Faroe Islands.
Hotel overnight stays are used as a measurement of the number of visitors and the duration of their stays.
The number of overnight stays by Danish residents dropped by 39 percent over this period, and it went down by a full 52 percent for residents of other countries.

Faroese residents, on the other hand, appear much keener to visit hotels, with about 1,800 of them checking into hotels in February. This is twice as many as in February 2020.
Despite the increase in overnight stays and check-ins, the occupancy rate – the number of available hotel rooms used – dropped from 35.1 percent in February 2020 to 23.5 percent in February 2021.
Two new hotels opened in the Faroe Islands last year, while others expanded their facilities.
