A more proactive vaccination approach after ólavsøka

The health authorities will be taking a more proactive vaccination approach after the ólavsøka national holidays (28-29 July) in an effort to increase vaccine participation.

More drop-in sessions will be made available, and the vaccination team is also planning to take their mobile unit to places such as the smaller islands that have limited access to the three hospitals.

“We had perhaps not taken sufficiently into account that this is the holiday season, and maybe that is part of the reason why fewer people than expected have been vaccinated,” says Margit Stórá, COO of the National Hospital, who is a member of the vaccination team.

Until ólavsøka, vaccinations will be available on the following days:

National Hospital, Tórshavn: 23, 25, 26 and 27 July

Klaksvík Hospital: 26 and 27 July

Suðuroy Hospital: 26 July

Seven new Covid cases

Seven new Covid cases were registered yesterday, reports corona.fo.

Three people were infected domestically and all are linked to known chains of infection. Two tested positive on arrival from abroad and two in follow-up tests four days after arrival.

The daily numbers of positive tests over the past week have been as follows: 8, 4, 8, 8, 8, 9 and 7.

There are currently 84 active Covid cases in the country. One person is receiving hospital treatment for Covid-19, and 232 people are currently listed as being in quarantine.

According to the latest vaccination figures on corona.fo, updated today, 34,256 people (64.2 percent of the population) have received the first shot of the vaccine, while 27,461 (50.5 percent) have received the second shot.
