Men sentenced in violence trial
A 45-year-old man was today given a 15-month prison term, and a 36-year-old man received a one-year prison term.
The 45-year-old was given a harsher penalty as he carried out the violent act while on probation. Both defendants have previous violence convictions.
At this morning’s court hearing, the judge said that the court’s inability to determine whether the violence was the result of a brawl between the two defendants and the injured party or whether it was a direct assault counts as a mitigating factor.
Both men, who have been in custody since 29 December 2017, accepted the sentences.
The prosecution is yet to decide whether to appeal the ruling, as it was slightly more lenient than expected.
