The forthcoming requirement to use renewable energy in residential houses has prompted a call for extensive research into Faroese underground water.

Sambandsflokkurin (the Union Party) has submitted a bill calling for a new law that would speed up this research process.

The party says that there are many warm springs across the country, with temperatures ranging from only a few degrees up to 25 degrees Celsius.

Exempt from VAT

The bill encourages scientists to locate these hot springs to see if – and how – they can be used for geothermal heating.

Geothermal heating solutions should, according to the bill, be exempt from VAT and should be integrated into the adjusted electricity prices recently adopted in Parliament.
