Poll: opposition stands to win election

Fólkaflokkurin (the People’s Party) will be the big winner at the 31 August general election, according to a new Gallup poll carried out for KvF.

The parties of government stand to lose two seats, leaving them with a minority of 15 seats, while the opposition parties will end up with a 18-seat majority.

Gallup Faroe Islands asked 541 voters from 12 to 16 August, which was the day before the registration deadline for announcing candidates. 

Poll result breakdown

▪ Fólkaflokkurin received 24.1 of the poll votes, bringing its number of parliamentary seats up from six to eight.

▪ Javnaðarflokkurin (the Social Democratic Party) came second with 21.2 percent of the votes, going from eight seats to seven.

▪ Sambandsflokkurin (the Union Party) received 20.1 percent of the votes, going from six seats to seven.

▪ Tjóðveldi (the Republican Party) got 18.2 percent, going from seven to six seats.

▪ Framsókn (the Progress Party) and Miðflokkurin (the Central Party) hold on to their two seats each, receiving 7 and 5 percent of the votes, respectively.

▪ Sjálvstýri (the Self-Governing Party) received 3.5 percent, losing one of its two seats.

Neither of the two new parties, Framtakið fyri rættinum at velja kannabis (the campaign for the right to choose cannabis) and Føroyaflokkurin (the Faroese Party), stand to gain parliamentary representation.

The statistical uncertainty in the poll is 1.8 percent.
