Faroese MP to head the Nordic Council
MP and former finance minister Kristina Háfoss is taking a break from Faroese politics to assume the role as Secretary-General of the Nordic Council.
The Nordic Council Secretariat appointed Háfoss yesterday, with a start date of 1 February when current Secretary-General Britt Bohlin stands down.
“This is a huge honour for me,” says Háfoss, singling out the Arctic region, digitalisation projects and climate change as some of the areas she is most excited to start working on.
Well prepared for the role
Danish politician and former minister Bertel Haarder, who will take up the role as president of the Nordic Council at the start of next year, is happy with the choice of Háfoss as Secretary-General:
”With Kristina Háfoss, the Nordic Council has will have a highly educated and well-prepared Secretary-General, who also has solid experience in public administration,” he says.
Háfoss, 45, has degrees in economics and law. She is currently an MP for Tjóðveldi and was finance minister in the last government, from 2015 to 2019,
