On 14 March 2001, Romanian-born Sorin Anghel moved to the Faroe Islands to stay with his girlfriend and to join his new football club EB/Streymur.

A week ago, he reached the special milestone of having spent half his life in the Faroes.

Sorin was a professional football player in Romania before moving to the Faroes at the age of 21 and has since become something of a legend in Faroese football.

After having played in big stadiums in Romania, he was slightly surprised when he saw the EB/Streymur football ground, which at the time was a simple football pitch with no spectator seats, located a few metres from the shore north of the Eysturoy town of Eiði.

Hear Sorin explain more about his first impressions of his new country, the cultural differences he has encountered and the challenges of being a foreigner in the Faroes here (in Faroese).
