Hestur ferry regularly sailing with no passengers

After repeated requests by Hestur residents, the transport minister introduced an extra ferry on 14 January to cover the Gamlarætt-Hestur route.

It has now emerged that the extra ferry, Jósup, has transported 144 passengers across Heystfjørður fjord since it was introduced on the route.

This amounts to an average passenger number of 1.26 per trip.

Almost half of all trips with no passengers

Since 14 January, Jósup has completed 114 trips, of which 53 were with no passengers. One trip had 15 passengers, which is the record so far.

In comparison, Teistin, which also covers the Gamlarætt-Hestur route, transported 271 passengers across Hestfjørður fjord in January.
