Police kept busy during village festival
Drunk sailing and driving and overcapacity boats were among the issues for police officers during Nólsoy’s Ovastevna festival at the weekend

06.08.2019 - 12:54

Police received a call early Sunday morning after festival visitors saw an apparently drunk man leaving Nólsoy harbour in a boat filled with people.

Coast guard ship Brimil was in the area and managed to intercept the boat soon after it left the harbour.

The suspected drunk sailor was taken in for alcohol testing.

Suspected drink driving incident

A few hours later, police received reports of a car going off the road in Eysturoy.

When police officers arrived at the scene, they became suspicious that the driver was under the influence of alcohol.

The driver was also taken in for alcohol testing.

Overcapacity boats

Two rigid-inflatable boats (RIB) were caught sailing between Tórshavn and Nólsoy carrying more passengers than the legal limit of 12.

Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre Vørn reports that efforts will be stepped up to keep a closer eye on this issue from now on.
