Misleading advert banned
A store which claimed to sell masks that are approved as protection against the coronavirus has retracted its advertisement.
This comes after the consumer watchdog informed the store that there was insufficient proof that the masks are approved for this purpose.
The advert also stated, “get the mask before your neighbour”.
Misleading and distressing
In its reprimand, the consumer watchdog told the store to abstain from using phrasings that can cause distress.
The advert can be interpreted as saying that the masks in question protect the general public against infection, but the consumer watchdog points out that health authorities do not recommend considering masks as guaranteed protection against infection for the general public.
The matter has been resolved and the advert has been retracted.
