Unemployment in Suðuroy halved after a year
The unemployment rate for Suðuroy dropped by 50 percent from September 2017 to September 2018, from 5.6 percent to 2.8 percent.
Although this was the biggest decrease compared with other regions, Suðuroy still has the highest unemployment rate in the country.
The overall Faroese unemployment figure is now at 1.3 percent, with the lowest rates being in Norðoyggjar, Eysturoy, Norðstreymoy and Vágar, ranging from 0.7 percent to 1.0 percent.
The group with the lowest unemployment rate of all, at 0.5 percent. is women in the Vágar district.
Split into age groups, the 16-24 group and the 45-54 group have the lowest rates, standing at 0.9 percent.
In the 25-34 age group, more than twice as many women as men are unemployed.
These figures come from the ALS job centre and the Ministry of Social Affairs, which provides unemployment benefits in accordance with the Public Assistance Act.
