New push to strengthen unity within Danish kingdom
Young people in Denmark, the Faroe Islands and Greenland do not know enough about their fellow ‘Danish’ citizens.
This is the conclusion of the Danish Prime Minister’s Office, which has earmarked DKK 25m over the next four years to help young people in the region understand the cultures of the other countries in the Danish kingdom.
The Danish Parliament has now included the money in the national budget for next year.
Over the next four years, the DKK 25m will be spent on initiatives such as study trips, educational support, documentary films, general education and dissertation competitions in higher education institutions.
The Danish government will also be working towards making a general understanding of the Danish commonwealth a mandatory part of the elementary school curriculum.
“By increasing our knowledge, we rid ourselves of our prejudices and strengthen our bonds,” says Danish Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen.
