Culture minister survives no confidence vote

The vote of no confidence against culture minister Rigmor Dam following the overspending scandal at new college Glasir has failed.
There were 15 votes in favour of the vote, 15 against and three blank votes, meaning the motion of no confidence was rejected.
It was clear that the speaker of the Parliament, Páll á Reynatúgvu, hesitated before pressing the voting button. As the final speaker of last night’s session, he slammed the culture minister and the Prime Minister for allowing the Glasir scandal to escalate to the point at which Parliament has to decide on it.
He said that he was very disappointed in the two ministers’ last-minute admission of responsibility.
The big question now is whether there is a basis for launching a probe into the culture ministry’s handling of the Glasir case.
Rigmor Dam said she is prepared to face an extensive independent investigation of her and her ministry.
