City hall now heated with thermal energy
Tórshavn City Council has started its transition to green energy for municipal buildings in the capital region

Thermal water extracted from three 300-metre-deep holes in the ground is now providing heating for Tórshavn’s city hall.

Last year, 15,119 litres of oil were used for heating the city hall, and the new thermal system is expected to cut the city hall’s CO2 emissions by up to 75 percent.

The new system forms part of the city council’s overall objective to have all municipal buildings powered by renewable energy sources.
