European Capital of Culture 2030?
Tórshavn municipality should aim to become the European Capital of Culture in 2030.
This is a long-term objective outlined in the new tourism policy for 2022-2026, which the city council approved yesterday.
Titled “Fólk og ferðavinna lið um lið” (“People and tourism side by side”) the strategy consists of 26 priority areas recommended for implementation over the coming years.
The overall objective is that Tórshavn municipality remains a good place to live and that efforts are made to accommodate the tourism industry without jeopardising the well-being of the locals.
Three main components
The 26 priority areas are divided into three main components.
Component one consists of campaigns aimed at achieving a balance between locals and visitors.
Component two is about building a solid framework around an inspiring cultural scene which benefits locals and also attracts visitors.
The third component focuses on sustainable tourism.
The city council will work actively towards attracting more business tourists and international sports events to the capital region.
