A weekend of mountain bike fun in Tórshavn
The Mountain Bikers’ Club is hosting two races in Tórshavn this weekend.
The first race – Vetrarkross – is a so-called cross duathlon event, which is a combination of cycling and running. It starts at 10 this morning outside the Yndi Fitness building, and the race will run through the picturesque Svartafossur area.
The second one – Vetrarplúmm – is a slightly simpler event consisting only of cycling. It starts outside the old high school building in Hoydalar tomorrow at 10 am.
Participants are advised to show up one hour ahead of race start.
Fun more important than racing
Helgi Winther, chairman of the Mountain Bikers’ Club, is keen to point out that the competitive element is played down in these races.
“The difficulty level will not be high, so we encourage everyone to take part. Just bring a bike and a helmet and we’ll help you with the rest.” he says.
“And even if you’re not able to take part in the actual races, do come along and watch. It will be an entertaining experience taking place in some of the most scenic parts of city.”
He encourages everyone who owns or has access to a mountain bike to come along. For details about the club, the races and locations, visit Fjallasúkklufelagið’s Facebook page.
