Nobody should feel lonely at Christmas
KFUM and KFUK – the Faroese versions of the YMCA and the YWCA – again this year want to make sure that nobody feels lonely on Christmas Eve.
”After the Christmas Eve church service, we take our van and go pick up everyone who has signed up for the event,” says Pól Johannesen, the manager of KFUM and KFUK in Klaksvík.
“When everyone is gathered in our building, there is a meet-and-greet over a cup of tea or coffee. After that, dinner is served. Then we dance around the Christmas tree, followed by the traditional Faroese dessert of rice pudding and the handing out of Christmas presents. We expect it to last 3-5 hours.”
Sign up by midnight tomorrow
The event in Tórshavn follows a similar format. The house opens at 4.30pm and dinner is served at 6pm.
The events are free of charge, and the deadline for signing up is tomorrow at midnight.
So far, nine people have signed up for the event in Klaksvík. Call 457425 for more information.
In Tórshavn, 11 people have signed up so far. Call 311824 for more information.
