Hallur Hjalgrímsson Djurhuus is the founder of a new politcal party called ‘Framtakið fyri rættinum at velja kannabis’ (The campaign for the right to choose cannabis’).

The main objective of the party is to legalise the cannabis plant for medical use.

“We simply wish to legalise a harmless plant, which everyone should have the right to cultivate and use,” says Mr Djurhuus.

“It is particularly important that people who need cannabis for medical purposes should be given free access to it.”

The new party has a neutral stance on all other political matters, and party members will be free to decide as they wish on anything not related to cannabis.

“If you support the legalisation of the cannabis plant and research into its effects, you are welcome to join the party, regardless of your views on other political issues,” he says.

Djurhuus has so far collected some 250 of the 800 signatures required to run for election, and he is confident that he will manage to gather the remaining 550 signatures.
