The European Union and the Faroe Islands yesterday signed a deal for next year’s fisheries.

No significant changes were made in relation to this year’s agreement; however, some minor changes were included in the new agreement.

Faroese ships will be allowed to catch an additional 1,000 tonnes of blue whiting in EU waters next year, and the joint quota for North Sea herring is increased by 500 tonnes.

For next year, Faroese ships have total quotas of 32,500 tonnes for blue whiting, 4,500 tonnes of North Sea herring and 24,690 tonnes of mackerel in EU waters.

Some minor adjustments were made in quotas for other fish species.
