The Chief Medical Officer of the Faroes has published the birth statistics for 2017.

The report shows that 54.5 percent of all new-borns were born out of wedlock.

Most new mothers live with the baby’s father. Thirty-eight mothers did not live with the baby’s father, according to the report.

Out of the 652 live births in 2017, 571 were born on time, i.e. in week 37-41.

Last year, a majority of the fathers were aged between 30 and 34. One father was younger than 17, and 19 fathers were older than 45 at the time of the baby’s birth.

Two mothers were younger than 17, and one was older than 45. Most mothers were aged between 25 and 29.

The heaviest baby last year weighed 5,360 g at birth. The highest average birth weight (3,798 grams) was in Sandoy.
